EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN WITH YWCA VTOC
MAY 2018
YWCA Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (YWCA VTOC) was established in September 1998 to serve the needs of young women from economically disadvantaged segments of the society irrespective of race, religion and cultural differences.
This year, SPB supports five young trainees selected by the YWCA VTOC from the Culinary and Bakery course. These trainees aged between 16 and 20 years old travelled from various states in Malaysia to the centre to attain vocational qualifications. At the centre, the trainees are provided with accommodation and meals.
Nagarani, Turka Devi, Suguna, Yuvarani and Kiera are attending a one-year course in Culinary and Bakery that will give them a foundation entry to the hospitality industry. They will learn a range of topics covering Personal Development, Customer Relations, Food Planning, Food Preparation, Occupational Hygiene and Sanitation, Occupational Safety and cooking methods. In a recent meeting, the young women shared their dreams of opening a bakery shop, starting a catering business and taking their interest in baking and cooking to greater heights.
